ChatGPT und das Sprachmodell
Behind ChatGPT and the many debates that have accompanied it, there is the fundamental question of what is at stake in generative AI. Particularly in view of their many implications for education.
1 - Understanding ChatGPT¶
To give you a better idea of what these language models are, The AI4T team wante dto share with you the work of the Flowers team (Inria Centre at the University of Bordeaux) which carries out scientific research in the field of developmental artificial intelligence. In particular, it is interested in computer modelling of human learning mechanisms, and the role of curiosity and language in cognitive development. It is also studying the properties of the major language models (ChatGPT, Mistral, etc), and developing methods that will enable them to be better anchored in the real world.
The team is also studying applications of this work in the field of educational technologies, as well as to help scientists (physicists, biologists, etc.) explore and better understand new systems (materials, self-organising chemical reactions, etc.).
Episode#1: How do language models work?¶

They are intended for the general public (for instance students and professors in middle and high school, and more generally anyone not accustomed to computer science or AI). This is a 5-minute overview answering these questions: - How are these models "trained"? - On which type and amount of data are they trained, and what is the impact of the size of the training corpus? - Which types of tasks are they capable of doing, and how can we ask them to perform those tasks? - What are their main usages in society? - What are their limitations and biases? What social issues? - Which organizations develop these models? Are there "open-sourced" ones ?. It's aimed at a wide audience, including students and teachers in secondary schools.

Despite certain weaknesses, they also possess a large number of strengths, such as : - their ability to analyze a given context to provide an appropriate response to a task - their use of external tools (e.g. Wikipedia) - the wide range of data on which they have been trained - their ability to produce basic reasoning - their "common sense" in certain contexts - their ability to help us come up with creative ideas
Episode#5 : advanced prompting and reasoning¶
« Advanced prompting and reasoning »(in French - English version soon available) Synopsis : This video shows how language models such as ChatGPT or Bard are able to hold simple reasonings to solve a given problem. However, it is sometimes necessary to use various advanced prompts techniques to help them organise such reasoning. Some of these techniques (e.g. thought chains) are presented here; then the origin and limits of these reasoning abilities are discussed.

2 - Possible uses in education¶
