Raising Awareness of Natural Disasters with AI
This educational program aims to raise students' awareness of natural disaster risks. It is intended for middle school geography classes.
It was presented on the forum of the French MOOC "Artificial intelligence for and by teachers" – visited on 01/07/2025.

Lesson Plan¶
Session 1: Introduction – Immersion and Critical Thinking¶
Resource: Perplexity AI
Objective: Create scenarios based on real events to understand crisis management during natural disasters.
Procedure:
- Research and create natural disaster scenarios using Perplexity AI.
- Reading and situational exercises with students.
- Group brainstorming: identify appropriate reactions and mistakes to avoid.
Session 2: Interactive Exploration – Simulation with Stop Disasters!¶
Resource: Stop Disasters!
Objective: Test different prevention and risk management strategies in a virtual environment.
Procedure:
- Students play Stop Disasters! in groups to evaluate their decisions during various disasters.
- Group debrief: identify effective strategies and areas for improvement.
Session 3: Designing a Prevention Campaign¶
Resources: Canva, Canva AI, Claude
Objective: Create a visual and textual campaign for natural disaster risk prevention.
Procedure:
- Research ideas and design the campaign concept with Claude.
- Graphic design on Canva and use of its AI feature to generate visuals.
- Final layout and preparation for presentation.
Session 4: Presentation and Conclusion¶
Resources: Materials created by students
Objective: Present projects and assess understanding of natural disaster issues and AI tool usage.
Procedure:
- Present campaign projects (posters, visuals, texts).
- Students explain the AI tools used and their role in the project.
- Final discussion: learning outcomes, importance of prevention, and the impact of AI tools.
